The Green City Block

Malaga, Spain.

Our proposal “AL SUR” focuses on the development of new typological housing models based on their energy efficiency, sustainable, pedestrian and ecological urbanization; and in the vegetation diversity, making the Green Block an example of 21st century urban intervention.

From the urban point of view, the traffic of private vehicles is restricted in the interior of the block, proposing a new model of pedestrian city. The building volumes are arranged in such a way that they optimize the solar incidence on the generous interstitial public spaces.

The buildings in their typology and volumetric solution are conditioned by their orientation, maximizing the effect of the natural climatic conditions of the site over the passive strategies of the dwellings and commercial area. The proposed structure is composed of solid elements of cross-laminated timber in opposition to the traditional systems of concrete or steel. This material of great resistance and positive impact on the environment has the potential to become the sustainable solution for the future development of our cities.
