The Sunken House

Cadiz, Spain.

The Sunken House is an excavated bubble, where air substitutes water as the natural environment and where facades and external forms disappear. Light is used as the main element to shape the house with several pronounced light wells emerging from the surface in order to catch the sunlight. These elements perforate the house, enriching the spatial conditions while simultaneously shaping the form for the various programs. The light wells generate unique situations within the interior as well as encourage a playfulness and sense of discovery to the overall experience.
