Dental Clinic in Alaquàs
Valencia, Spain
This project transforms a commercial unit into a Dental Clinic in Alaquàs with 157 m² and four treatment rooms. The irregular shape of the property served as a starting point. The design focuses on optimizing natural light in all spaces. In addition, it creates an organic circulation flow that separates the public from the staff.
At the heart of the clinic, a pristine central volume made of translucent, acid-etched glass with solid oakwood mullions and rounded corners contains the treatment rooms. Natural light permeates every space through the glass. However, patient privacy is preserved, and acoustic insulation is ensured. Each room has a flared ceiling that ends in an artificial skylight. As a result, the sensation of connection to the outdoors is enhanced, creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere.
Around this central structure lies a sequence of open spaces. These include the reception, waiting room, consultation office, staff lounge, and both public and private circulation areas. All enjoy direct natural light. Meanwhile, linen curtains filter the light in spaces where occasional privacy is required.
The floor is finished with large-format 60 × 60 cm porcelain stoneware tiles set at a 45° angle. This ceramic is locally manufactured, paying tribute to the material culture of eastern Spain. Consequently, it provides a continuous, durable, and aseptic surface, ideal for a dental clinic. The stoneware folds up to cover vertical walls, forming integrated seating in the waiting area and cladding retractable service room doors, which are discreetly marked overhead.
The service rooms absorb the irregularities of the building, regularizing the layout. They include storage, machine room, bathrooms, changing rooms, X-ray room, and photography room. In addition, these areas serve as a buffer between the main spaces, the street, and the adjoining properties. Custom-designed oakwood furniture completes the palette, shaping the reception desk and kitchenette.
The result is a dental clinic in Alaquàs that blends serenity and efficiency. By reducing the stress usually associated with healthcare environments, it offers patients a sense of calm. At the same time, it provides staff with optimal working conditions, demonstrating architecture as a true tool for well-being.
